For the 1979 model year, Volkswagen introduced the Golf Cabriolet. Also known as the Rabbit Cabriolet in North America, this hot Cabrio was equiped with inline 4 engines delivering power to the front wheels through manual and automatic gearboxes. Production of the Mk1 Golf ended in 1984 but the Mk1 Cabriolet remained in production until 1993 known just as the Volkswagen Cabriolet. The Golf Mk2 had no Cabrio configuration so the MK1 Cabriolet was replaced by the Mk3 Cabriolet. Production of the Mk3 generation lasted until 2002.
