The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was a high performance version of the C5 Corvette that debuted for the 2001 model year. The Z06 was the successor to the C4 Corvette ZR-1, and was offered in a "Fixed Roof Coupe" body style. These cars were equipped with a more potent version of Chevrolet's LS1 engine that was known as the LS6. This engine was a 5.7L V8 that generated 385hp (increased to 405hp from 2002) and sent its power to the rear wheels through a 6 speed manual transmission. In addition to the standard Z06, a LeMans Commemorative Edition was offered in 2004 that celebrated the Corvette's 1-2 finish in Le Mans. Production of the C5 Chevrolet Corvette Z206 ended in 2004 with a total of 28,388 examples built. The Z06 name would continue as part of the next generation C6 Corvette as the C6 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
