BMW introduced their E90 generation of M3 for the 2008 model year. The only M3 fitted with a naturally aspirated V8 engine, the E90 generation of M3 was offered in three distinct body styles, each with their own unique development code: Sedan (E90), Coupe (E92), and Convertible (E93). Each of these body stlyes were available with manual or automatic transmissions. This lead to six standard variants: Sedan - Manual, Sedan - Automatic, Coupe - Manual, Coupe - Automatic, Convertible - Manual, and Convertible - Automatic. In 2011, BMW introduced a Competition Package (also known as ZCP) which improved the dynamic ability of the cars. These ZCP cars were offered in sedan and coupe body styles, and with manual and automatic transmissions. This created four ZCP variants: ZCP Sedan - Manual, ZCP Sedan - Automatic, ZCP Coupe - Manual, and ZCP Coupe - Automatic. Standard sedan variants of the M3 were built until 2011, while coupe and convertible variants were in production until 2013. The M3 CRT, which was a special edition M3, was the only M3 sedan built for the 2012 model year. Other notable E90 M3 variants included the M3 GTS, which was a lightweight, track-focused version, and the M3 Lime Rock Park Edition. The E90 generation of M3 cars was replaced in 2014 by the F30 generation M3.
