Details
This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E is one of approximately 4,400 vehicles produced that model year in collaboration with Porsche who’s engineering team reworked the chassis to accommodate the 5.0L M119 V8 engine while making it lighter than the 500SL sports car. Compared to the other W124 models, the 500E has a lower and wider stance. It includes safety and design innovations like an elongated driver’s side rear-view mirror to better see traffic approaching from the rear (although that was likely infrequent). Due to its wider dimension, portions of the 500E were hand-built in the Porsche plant in Zuffenhausen and the full build took 18 days to complete. This example is finished in black with gray lower cladding and a matching black leather interior with accommodations for four passengers. It has just 75,241 km (46,753 miles) on the odometer and came well-equipped from the factory with a desirable sunroof. This vehicle was first delivered to Japan (all 500E vehicles were built as left-hand drive) and was moved to Belgium where it was acquired by the seller via online auction in 2021. The car is currently located in Miami, FL.
A third-party inspection and detailed photo gallery represent a well-cared-for, low-mileage Mercedes-Benz sedan. The inspection notes excellent condition inside and out. The vehicle has recently been treated to a mechanical tuneup, including the replacement of the spark plugs and filters. The shocks and springs were replaced to improve the ride over the aging hydraulic self-leveling rear suspension. The bumpers and lower cladding have been refinished to return them to like-new condition. An A/C service including the replacement of the compressor and dryer completed recent work to ensure a comfortable climate for occupants during warmer months. An included engine video demonstrates the smooth operation of the V8 and a test drive confirmed that all features of this vehicle operate as they were originally designed. The sale includes one set of keys and documentation/receipts of recent service.

About the model
The Mercedes-Benz 500E is one of the company's more interesting models. Introduced for the 1992 model year, the 500 E was part of the W124 sedan and was a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. As Mercedes were entirely focused on their new S-Class, they hired Porsche to accommodate a 5.0L V8 engine in the front of the car as well as tune the chassis to be able to handle the increased power. Painstakingly assembled, each handbuilt car took 18 days to complete. For the 1994 model year, Mercedes changed their naming system, moving the 'E' designation to the front of the variant name, so the 500E became the W124 Mercedes-Benz E500.
