About this 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon GL

VIN: WV2YB0254HH006596

Details

This partially refurbished 1987 Volkswagen Type 2 Vanagon is powered by a rear-mounted and modified 2.3L flat-four engine from GoWesty. Also rebuilt by GoWesty is the manual transaxle that sends power to the vehicle's rear wheels. The exterior is finished in blue with a matching blue interior. The road trip-ready Vanagon is equipped with a rear seat that folds out into a bed, an exterior 110-volt electrical outlet, and disc brakes. The six-digit odometer shows 4,458 miles, which is said to be the mileage on the rebuilt motor. The accident-free CarFax report shows that the vehicle has done well over 250,000 miles, but the true mileage is unknown.

This partially refurbished Vanagon shows well in the third-party photos and performed well during the inspection. The roof of the car was repainted during its refurbishment, which began in 2017 and ended in 2021. The front of the car does show chips and scratches and a few other minor dings in other places on the exterior. The interior still has plush blue cloth, refurbished interior panels, and new carpet. Mechanically, the car was given a raft of replacement parts aside from the rebuilt engine and transmission. A new clutch, radiator, gas tank, brakes and suspension components were all replaced or restored; a complete list can be found below. Included in the sale are two sets of keys.

This VW Vanagon is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Eugene, Oregon.

About the model

Volkswagen introduced the third generation of the Type 2 in 1979. Known as the T3, the third generation Type 2 was known as the Vanagon in the Americas, and the name has become synonymous with the T3 Type 2. Available in a variety of interior layouts and body styles, including the Westfalia Camper, the T3 generation would be the last Type 2 generation to feature a rear-mounted engine. The T3 was produced until 1992, although the fourth generation T4 Type 2 was introduced in 1990.
