Speedster #81127 was delivered to US importer Max Hoffman on December 7th, 1955 and sold to its first owner, Mr. Thiel in Modesto, CA. Mr. Thiel kept this beautiful Speedster for 50(!) years until 2005. Well-known classic car dealer Fantasy Junction in California sold the car in 2010 to the current owner in Germany and the Speedster is part of his fine Porsche collection since.
This is a very nice early example with bee hive tail lights and in the classic color combination of white over red leatherette. The Speedster was treated to a cosmetic restoration in the early 2000’s. The paint work was done to a very high standard and it is noteworthy, that the car retained its original floor pan and battery box. All gaps and shut lines are perfect. There is no evidence of any prior rust repair or damage. The car also received an updated ZF steering box at that time. But it had lost its original engine and was sold with a 356 B engine.
Once the car arrived in Germany, a period correct engine was sourced, completely rebuilt and installed. The original engine was #60323 per Kardex card, the current engine installed is #60198. The engine compartment is extremely clean and detailed.
Cosmetically, this Speedster is a knock out! The paint still looks flawless and the car presents simply gorgeous. The red interior offsets beautifully to the white body and the seats, carpets, door panels and dashboard are like new. Some of the knobs and the steering wheel show some hairline cracks which adds to the classic look of the Speedster.
The chrome and metal trim is very nice throughout, so are the lights and glass. The windscreen has been replaced and is like new, and the weather equipment has also been replaced and is excellent, with clear plastic and very nice black canvas.
The Speedster runs and drives spectacular.
It comes with full owner documentation, original 1956 pink slip, Kardex card, Porsche CoA, registration receipts, spare and jack.
