ZiL, whose full translated name is "Public Joint-Stock Company - Likhachov Plant," is a Russian automotive manufacturer that traces its roots to 1916. Originally established as the Moscow Automotive Society, the company and factory underwent numerous name changes until it was named "Zavod imeni Likhachyova" in honor of a former plant director. ZiL produced a wide range of vehicles, from limousines for heads of state, to military vehicles for a variety of uses. The company produced vehicles until 2012, when operations ceased.
