The Volkswagen Golf GTD was a high performance diesel variant for the Volkswagen Golf. Based on the Golf GTI, the GTD was Introduced in 1982 as the perfect combination of performance and economy. It was powered by a 1.6L Turbodiesel I4, producing 69 hp and 96 lbf⋅ft of torque witch was sent to the front wheels by a 4 or 5 speed manual gearbox. A 3 speed automatic gearbox was also available. The Volkswagen Golf GTD ended production in 1983 when the Mk1 was superseded by the Volkswagen Golf Mk2.
