The Triumph 2000 was introduced for the 1964 model year as a mid-size, rear-wheel drive sedan. The first engine to be used by the 2000 was a 2.0L inline six engineered by Standard Motor Company and used in the Vanguard model. When used by Triumph it had higher compression ratio, leading to an increased output of 90hp. As for running gear, the 4 speed manual transmission was standard, but a 3 speed automatic was also available. The 2000 later evolved with a 2.5L inline six engine also offered and a 5-door estate version being introduced. Production of the 2000 came to an end in 1977 after 14 years between the MKI & MKII.
