The second generation of Mini Cooper was introduced for the 2007 model year. While the second generation Hardtop was availabe in 2007, the updated Convertible would not be introduced until 2009. In addition to the naturally aspirated or turbocharged inline four engines, the second generation Mini also featured a diesel option. The sporty Cooper S continued to be available as an S Hardtop or S Convertible, and towards the end of second generation production, the special edition John Cooper Works GP was offered. In 2012, Mini introduced a series of Coupes and Roadsters which featured distinct styling, and were built until 2015. The second generation of Mini hardtop exited production in 2013, while the second generation convertible was built until 2015. The Third Generation Mini Cooper was introduced in 2014.
