The Mercedes-Benz 300E was a variant of the W124 Sedan that was introduced for the 1986 model year. The 300 E was powered by Mercedes' M103.983 engine, which was a 180hp inline six. This engine sent drive to the rear wheels via manual or automatic transmission options. Over the course of W124 production, Mercedes used the 300E name in North America for a handful of variants such as the 300E 2.6 and 300E 2.8. While these variants use the 300E name, they are different offerings with unique chassis codes. Production of the W124 Mercedes-Benz 300E ended in 1992, with a total of 258,063 examples built. Somewhat confusingly, Mercedes used the 300E name in North America for the 1993 model year version of the W124 Mercedes-Benz E320.
