Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 290 in 1933. Commonly known as the W18, the 290 was offered in a variety of body styles, as well as short and long wheelbase versions. The 290 was fitted with a 2.9L inline six engine that initially produced 59hp, yet in 1935 was uprated and produced 67hp. Like many cars at the time the 290 was also offered as a chassis to be bodied by coachbuilders. The 290 was in production until 1937, when it was replaced by the Mercedes-Benz 320.
