The Mazda MX-5 Miata base model was available between 1999 through 2005 as the entry level version of the NB generation Miata. The base model was powered by a 1.8 liter DOHC inline-four, rated at 140 hp. The 1999 model year featured a number of optional features (Leather, Limited Slip Differential, Appearence Package, etc) which in subsequent years formed the basis for the LS and Special Edition trims. For the 2001 model year, displacement remained the same, but power was bumped slightly to 142 hp. Power was driven to the rear via a manual transmission or optional automatic.
