The Mazda MX-5 Miata R-Package, available between 1994 and 1996, was a sport-themed package offering Bilstein shocks, stiffer sway bars, retuned springs, subtle front and rear underbody spoilers, and a Torsen limited-slip differential (LSD). Air conditioning was optional, but the "R" package was not available with power steering, leather, or an automatic transmission. It was powered by the same 1.8-liter engine adopted for the entire range as of 1994, sending drive to the rear through a 5-speed manual transmission. Although part of the base model trims, it it is commonly considered a separate version in the NA Miata range.
