For the 1992 model year, Mazda would feature a special version of the Mazda MX-5 Miata known variously as the 'Black Miata' or as the 'Special Edition'. It was painted black and featured tan leather interior. As with the 1991 Special Edition Miata, it also had a Nardi shift knob and handbrake lever, but also featured BBS 14" alloy wheels. Production numbers are estimated at 4,626 units. For the 1993 model year, it would evolve into the 1993 Limited Edition Miata.
