The first generation of GMC S-15 / Sonoma was introduced for the 1982 model year. Initially launched as the S-15, this new model of compact trucks was an upmarket version of the Chevrolet S-10. In 1991, the S-15 was renamed, and featured the Sonoma is its name. The first generation S-15 / Sonoma featured a selection of inline four or V6 engines, and was in production until 1993, when the Second Generation GMC Sonoma was unveiled.
