New for the 1986 model year, Ford of Europe debuted the Scorpio sedan meant to succeed the European Ford Granada. The car was a front engine, rear or four-wheel-drive with a variety of 4 or 6-cylinder options. It was produced in sedan, hatchback, or wagon styles across three generations. It was offered in North America for a year under the name Merkur. There was even a special 'Cosworth' Scorpio with its powerplant from the fabled engine manufacturer. The Scorpio's production came to an end in 1998.
