In 1962 Bristol released a slightly different replacement for the 406, the 407. Based on the 406, the 407 was a step in another direction for the British company, and it solved the previous problem of "power to weight." Bristol decided the answer was a Chrysler V8 with a Torqueflite transmission. Over the decade, an American V8 became more common in European cars. They were only built as a coupe and with just 88 examples, the Bristol 407s were eventually replaced by the 408 in 1963.
