The BMW 730i was the entry-level variant for the E65 BMW 7 Series. Introduced for the 2005 model year, the 730i was offered as a four door luxury sedan that was built on the standard wheelbase (The 730Li was the long wheelbase variant). These cars were initially powered by BMW's M54B30 engine, which was a 3.0L inline six. From the 2006 model year, BMW's N52B30 engine was used, which was also a 3.0L inline six. Both engines sent drive to the rear wheels via a 6 speed automatic transmission. Production of the E65 730i lasted until 2008, although the model series continued life as part of the next generation F01 BMW 7 Series.
