The second generation of the BMW 4 Series was introduced for the 2021 model year. This new generation was collectively known as the G22, and was built in coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe (fastback sedan) body styles. These cars were offered in rear wheel drive or all wheel drive (xDrive), and were powered by a range of turbocharged inline four and inline six engines, available in gasoline, diesel, or hybrid. Variants included the 430i, M440i, and the performance-focused M4.
