The Hummer H1 was a civilian version of the military AM General Humvee. Originally, AM General had no intention of selling the Humvee for civilian use, but after a campaign lead by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the H1 was introduced for the 1992 model year. The Hummer H1 featured much of the rugged nature of the Humvee, but featured a raft of upgrades and changes in order to increase what was almost non-existent passenger comfort. The H1 was sold in a variety of body styles, including open top, SUV, hardtop, and pickup, and was fitted with a range of V8 engines. Production of the Hummer H1 ended in 2006.
