The E36 M3, introduced in 1992, marked the second generation of BMW's iconic sports car following in the steps of its popular E30 variant. This model was initially powered by a 3.0L straight-six engine producing 282 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, except in the US market. In 1995, the M3 received a facelift, the most significant change being the introduction of a 3.2L inline-six engine that now generated 316 hp through a 6-speed manual gearbox.

One year prior to the facelift, BMW produced a limited-edition M3 GT for the European market as a racing homologation model. The GT homologated this chassis to compete in FIA-GT class II, IMSA GT, and international endurance races. The M3 GT featured the Euro-spec S50B30 engine with larger camshafts and a higher compression ratio, resulting in 295 hp - 13 hp more than the base model. This special edition also boasted an unrestricted top speed of 275 km/h (171 mph).

The M3 GT incorporated several performance-enhancing features, including a deeper and adjustable front splitter, a taller rear double wing, aluminum doors, stiffer front suspension, a cross-brace, and a strut brace. These modifications resulted in a 30 kg (66 lb) weight reduction compared to the standard M3. A total of 356 M3 GTs were produced, all in left-hand-drive configuration and painted in British Racing Green with a Mexico Green Leather interior and Amaretta Anthracite bolsters.

The M3 GT is widely celebrated by BMW enthusiasts and collectors alike. It ticks all the boxes that make a car truly collector-grade: limited production, a homologation special, a unique specification, and a foundation built on one of BMW’s most revered M3 generations.

The car available here at Animoya Garage is a 1995 BMW M3 GT, Chassis # WBSBF99050EA40281. It is car number 282 of the 356 M3 GTs produced and can be found in the M3 GT Registry with known history. As with all GT variants, it is finished in British Racing Green over Amaretta Anthracite suede interior with Mexico green inserts on the seats and door cards. This M3 GT was originally a German market car that was imported into France around 2002.

The car has been well-maintained since its purchase, with the original service booklet showing routine maintenance stamps up to 146,200 km (90,844 mi) from both Germany and France. Key services during this period include a VANOS service in 2010, a new belt tensioner in 2011, and new front and rear trailing arms in 2022.

When the car was imported to the US earlier this year, Leading Edge Autosport in Pennsylvania performed a major service. This included fluid changes, new spark plugs, drive belt tensioner, idler pulley, tie rod end, CV axle, bushings, and more. In 2024, Bechtel Bavarian in Philadelphia replaced the driveshaft flex joint, clutch and clutch components, and transmission fluid.

At just over 149,400 km (92,800 mi), this is a highly original and unmodified M3 GT example, with only the front bumper, hood, and possibly fenders repainted due to rock chips. The completed maintenance, including the VANOS service, makes this an exceptional example of one of BMW's rarer variants.

The new owner will receive all original manuals, tools, and comprehensive service records. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a rare, limited edition BMW that checks all of the collectibility boxes.
