Details
This 1987 AM General M998 Humvee is powered by a 6.2L Diesel V8 engine and automatic transmission driving all four wheels. Notably, this Humvee is fitted with a custom slantback hardtop roof that includes a lifting tailgate section with a rear-facing window. It has been refinished in blue and has an updated black interior featuring leather racing seats, contrasting blue seat belts, and new black carpet and headliner that both provide sound insulation. This functional and distinctive SUV was modified by US Engine Production in Lindenhurst, NY. Work included an update of the interior and a repaint in its current shade of blue. It rides on a newer set of Toyo tires mounted on M/T 16-inch wheels. The truck previously spent time in the service of Tazewell, VA before being auctioned by the town and now shows 361 miles on the odometer but the total mileage is unknown. It is currently located in New York.
This AM General M998 has been inspected and photographed by a third party to document the condition of the vehicle. The newer repaint shows well and the inspection notes a scratch on the right fender behind the wheel well and minor paint chips that are documented in the pictures. The interior looks to be recently updated and the black leather racing seats and carpeted surfaces do not show wear. Mechanically, the truck was tested and all features were demonstrated to work as they were designed. The sale includes two sets of keys and a set of matching custom Humvee floor mats.
This Humvee is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Rockville Center, NY.

About the model
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), better known as the Humvee, was a series of lightweight military trucks and utility vehicles. When the army opened a contract to create an updated generation of multipurpose utility vehicles, Chrysler Defense and Teledyne Continental both produced a design, but AM General won the contract with the HMMWV. These military vehicles were built in a wide array of body styles and specifications depending on their intended task and were available with a range of V8 engines, yet all were built with a 4x4 drivetrain. The AM General Humvee has been in production for over nearly forty years, with various evolutions having been built. The Humvee would not only prove an incredibly capable vehicle, but its popularity spawned a successful commercial version, the Hummer H1.
