My Ownership History:
I have owned this car since October of 2021, and below I will detail all the information I know about its history, as well as my personal ownership history with it, and the process of my complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration bringing it to a show car condition as it sits today.
In the uploaded images and documents on this listing, I have included a spreadsheet detailing my total restoration cost with all parts purchased for the restoration, as well as the current Carfax report (from January 17, 2025), the original Porsche Build Sheet, as well as various other market metrics to compare to the value of this car. The "Mechanical" section of the photos uploaded comprise various progress images from the tear down and repaint restoration process.
First and foremost, unless I am mistaken, this is the only yellow 930 coupe for sale in the United States right now. Additionally, I cannot recall ever seeing an ’86 or newer yellow 930 coupe for sale. This color combination on a 930 is ultra rare, let alone in this currently restored state. The car was originally delivered in Grand Prix White but was repainted in Speed Yellow potentially as early as the summer of 2010 (or earlier) as noted by the entry in the Carfax report. When I bought the car, it was already yellow, but in a somewhat rough shape as there were little dents throughout, chips, and generally poor paint condition (shown in the photos). This led me down the path of completely stripping the car to do a full repaint in Speed Yellow again, along with replacing many parts and trim pieces on the car (detailed below in the restoration spreadsheet breakdown).
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: If you look at the Carfax report, you will see that in 1997, there was a “salvage title” entry and mileage discrepancy on the record. Unfortunately, that is so long ago and so many owners ago, that I have no records or any information about it. However, the car currently has a completely CLEAN AND CLEAR CALIFORNIA TITLE IN-HAND... It has now been over 27 years since those entries, and under my ownership, this car has been completely stripped to bare metal, with a glass-out full repaint, restoration, and rebuild including a top-end engine rebuild. Therefore, in my opinion, the negative history has zero bearing on the condition of this car as it sits today. That being said, I also fully acknowledge that some Porsche buyers are speculators and investors looking for the most pristine examples (both physically and on paper), and to that person, I would say this car is probably not for you…
Considering the absolutely stunning condition and rarity of this Speed Yellow 930, I would argue that if this car was in fact a real factory yellow 930, with a pristine Carfax and low miles, it would easily be a $250,000 investment vehicle… Therefore, the current asking price to me is a balance between the true cost that went into its restoration with a significant discount because of its storied history. The car is currently at 911 Design repair shop in Montclair getting the full AC system installed and transmission rebuilt, and once completed, it will be a completely flawless and perfect car, both cosmetically and mechanically, and ready for the next road trip immediately.
One thing I can promise is that the next lucky owner of this car will have one of the most beautiful eye-catching 930s around, likely the ONLY yellow 930 to be seen in public, and nobody is looking up the Carfax history to scold you at Cars & Coffee…
