The stunning Ferrari 512BBi was Farrari’s answer to the ubiquitous 70s poster car, the Lamborghini Countach. Very much the antithesis of the brash, in-your-face car from Sant ’Agata, Pininfarina crafted one of the most elegantly beautiful cars of all time. Sit behind the wheel though, and this hugely impressive machine was every bit the supercar its rival claimed to be, and in many ways, even more so.
The fabulous 4.9 liter flat 12 engine is found here with Bosch K-Jetronic electronic fuel injection, giving it more usability than the at times temperamental carburetor version that preceded it. With 340 Bhp on tap, and a big engine that reaches 6,600 rpm, this car could reach 160 miles per hour, with the sprint to 60 taking just 5.4 seconds. A 5-speed manual gearbox and coil spring independent suspension make this 512BBi a pleasure to drive, while for its time innovative 4-wheen vented disk brakes mean it has the braking power for modern traffic too. Fast enough even for today, but at the time it matched the competition, and many testers felt that point to point, this would be the faster vehicle.
Just 1,007 of these fuel injected models left the Maranello factory between 1981 and 1984, and as one of the first fuel injection vehicles Ferrari ever offered, it has secured its place in the long history of this magical manufacturer. Built to take you anywhere at speed and in comfort, these vehicles are in high demand today, recognized as some of Pininfarina’s best work and one of the true icons of this most exciting supercar era.
This particular car has covered just 18.024 miles, and is presented in glorious, near blemish free Rosso Corsa paintwork with a tan leather interior. A particularly well cared for example of this desirable model, it benefits from power windows and the distinctive, and beautiful Cromodora wheels that give the car such a powerful stance.
A major cambelt service was completed in March of 2022, and it is supplied with all books and tools, as well as its service receipts, and both the original and a Tubi exhaust system. An individual import from Europe when new, this vehicle has been meticulously cared for, with the most recent service covering a timing-belt service, adjusting the valves, setting the timing, resealing the transaxle, and replacing the tires, axle boots, spark plugs, air filters, exhaust gaskets, and drive belts.
With its iconic pop-up headlamps and center-lock wheels, it is every inch the 80s supercar, and benefits from an aftermarket Alpine CD player and speakers with a Bluetooth connection but comes with the original radio. The tan leather is in fantastic condition, showing just the slight patina of wear that gives this car its character.
A clean Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration activity in Georgia and California, with entries as early as 1995, and in the flesh, it looks exactly how you want a low mileage example of this wonderful car to appear.
With its stunning paintwork, eager engine and classic style, this 512BBi is ready to go on its next adventure, and is fully California smog compliant with CARB sticker, currently registered in California.
