About this 1974 MG B GT

VIN: GHD5UE352305

1974 MG-B GT

This 74 B-GT was purchased by the current owner just over a year ago. He is generally a driver/collector and usually the cars he owns are red. Not this one, it is Lagoon Metallic, quite the drastic shift. After enjoying for the last year, he's purchased a red Honda S2000 and it's time for the MG to find a new home.

In the 5 years previous to his purchasing it, the car went through and extensive restoration. The car was pulled apart, the engine came out and was completely rebuilt, a mild cam was installed and stainless header and exhaust. New alternator, new hoses, wires, belts, AC compressor .. yes, this MG has AC and it blows nice and cold. An aluminum radiator keeps the engine nice and cool. Aluminum ribbed valve cover and oil pan were installed. A high torque starter cranks it all over.

All new fuel and brake lines installed, new shock absorbers and springs were installed. The A arms were pulled, sandblasted, repainted and reinstalled with new bushings.

Everything was touched. If it wasn't replaced with new it was cleaned, refurbished and painted like new. Gas struts hold up the hood, rear hatch and the custom spare tire cover panel.

The twin SU carbs were rebuilt and tuned to work beautifully with the cam and exhaust, allowing this 1800 engine to really breathe and motivate this little Pininfarina styled coupe.

Front bumper and grill were rechromed, the rear looked fine and was kept as is.

Hella halogen headlights were installed as were Lucas fog lamps and tucked inside the lower valance, another set of LED driving lamps.

Panasport Z Mini Lite wheels are wrapped with Dunlop Direzza Sport 205/50/15's front and rear. The brakes up front were replaced with drilled/slotted Wilwood rotors and 4 pot calipers.

The transmission was rebuilt and is a standard MG 4 speed, but this one also has the electronic Laycock Overdrive, giving this car in essence an additional 2 gears. The power flows through all that, a rebuilt/rebalanced driveshaft back to a stock, but rebuilt MG rear end, regular drum brakes pull it to a halt out back.

The body was stripped and painted in the fellow's garage, hence the less than perfect paint application, however, the paint really shines and sparkles and I feel would benefit from a good color correction/color sand and polish.

Inside the leather Miata buckets keep you in place. New dash cover, Miata auto dimming rear view mirror, new headliner, custom tinted visors, new wood/chrome 3 spoke steering wheel, new console, new carpets, new door cards, power locks and power windows complete the air conditioned interior. All the gauges work, the heat works and the Kenwood custom stereo keeps the tunes playing and the bluetooth keep you and your mobile devices connected. A battery cut off switch sits just between the seats for easy access. Underneath all of this is Rattle Trap sound and temp insulation.

Pull the choke, turn the key and the engine fires right up. While the odometer shows 77,887 miles, the actual mileage is less than 5000 since the full restoration.

Out on the road the car handles like it's on rails, accelerates very strongly and when the OD is engaged, cruises at 60 MPH at about 1800 RPM. The Wilwood brakes bring it to a stop extremely well.

Realistically, you aren't going to see any, or drive many other MG B GT's quite like this one.

The Lagoon metallic paint sets it apart from a see of British Racing Green and Red MGs.

And .. it is really, brand new, in every way.

Any questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule a time to see her in person, or simply to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for the interest!
