Car is a legitimate Texas ranch “barn find”. Vehicle was being used on ranch property in the early 1980s when owner decided to buy a side-by-side and parked the Scout in the barn. It remained there until Oct 2024 when the owner and I extracted it from the barn and towed it to my garage in Austin. Car is in 100% original condition with all parts except the passenger side mirror. Engine starts but won’t run for more than a few seconds. Our original plan was to restore the car ourselves, but personal issues have dictated that we sell the car as a project for someone else enjoy.
The car has stickers on both front fenders from Granatelli Motor Sports of California that suggest the car was possibly run in off-road races like the early Baja 1000. The added role bar and extra gas tank in the bed are consistent with this possible off-road racing history. Overall, the car has little rust and no body damage and is in good condition given its lengthy storage in a Texas barn. No doubt, it needs some restoration to become road worthy, but with a little thoughtful investment, it has the potential to be a high value example of this classic convertible SUV.
