About this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350-Class 350SL Roadster

VIN: 10704312002005

This rare, early-production 1972 European-market Mercedes-Benz 350SL is the beneficiary of significant maintenance and recent updates. Part of a limited production run between 1970 and 1980, it is differentiated from its U.S. spec counterparts by shorter European bumpers and headlights. This desirable early-production example is further distinguished by the absence of headrests and power windows. Other highlights include:

  • A high-performance 3.5L fuel-injected V8 engine with automatic transmission
  • Desirable and restored triple-blue color
  • New soft top (2024) and the original hard top
  • New suspension (front and rear in 2023)
  • New brakes (front and rear in 2024)
  • Recent engine tune-up and replacement of fluids and seals
  • New battery and tires

This 350SL is available in Los Angeles as a Premium Listing on CLASSIC.COM offered by Robert Lewis.

About the model

The Mercedes-Benz R107 / C107 was a generation of the SL-Class that was introduced in 1971, replacing the W113 SL-Class. These cars were available in two body styles, convertible and coupe, with the convertible known as the R107 and designated SL, while the coupe is known as the C107 and designated SLC. A range of inline-six and V8 engines were offered on the R107/C107 SL, although European and North American variants often had different horsepower ratings due to emissions regulations. Variants built included the 280SL, 280SLC, 300SL, 350SL, 350SLC, 380SL, 380SLC, 420SL, 450SL, 450SLC, 450SLC 5.0, 500SL, 500SLC, 500SL 5.0,  and 560SL. The SL and SLC variants were noticeable because of their strength and durability and often were used as Rally And Race Cars. Pre-merger AMG Variants were also available as they could be modified with special performance and exterior kits. Although the C107 Coupe versions were discontinued in 1981 due to the introduction of the C126 S-Class Coupes, the convertible was built until 1989, when they were replaced by the next generation R129 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class.
