This custom 1968 Mustang coupe has been restored and modified in the style of a Shelby GT500. The cars restoration is exemplified by the beautiful Acapulco Blue paint with white racing stripes on the top and sides and the GT500 insignia. The quality continues in the cabin with custom black leather seats and a center console. This Mustang is a quality build with added modern touches.
Originally powered by a 289ci V8, this custom build now carries a 302ci V8 backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power through the Ford differential to the rear wheels. The car features several modern upgrades, such as 18-inch polished aluminum wheels and custom TMI seats and console that make this Mustang feel much more contemporary. The vehicle is also equipped with front disc brakes, air conditioning, a Shelby-inspired wood wheel, rack and pinion power steering, and a Monte Carlo bar that adds additional rigidity to the front end in corners, by bracing the engine compartment side to side.
Additional modern touches include LED headlights, a chin spoiler, a custom grille, and a digital stereo. The car was restored by a previous owner and has been inspected by a third-party. The current reading on the odometer is 29,938 but the total mileage on the car is unknown. A video of the engine running can be seen in the inspection report found here. In addition third-party photographs were taken of the vehicle in order to represent the condition it is currently in. Included in the sale is one key.
This Mustang is available in Saddle River, NJ, as a Premium Listing on CLASSIC.COM and is being sold by Robert Lewis.
About the model
The Hardtop body style was one of three available for the Base 1967-1968 First Generation Ford Mustang. Alongside the Fastback and Convertible body styles, the Hardtop was available with a variety of engines, both inline six and V8s. The top engine offering was Ford's new "S-code" 390 cubic inch (6.4L) 'FE' big block V8 engine, which had an output of 320hp. Notably, the "A-code" and the "K-code" 289 V8s were only offered for the 1967 model year, while the "F-code" and "J-code" 302 V8s were only available for 1968. These engines were available with three transmissions: a 3-speed manual, a 4-speed manual, or a 3-speed automatic, all of which sent drive to the rear wheels. The Base Model 1967-1968 Ford Mustang Hardtop was replaced when Ford introduced the 1969-1970 First Generation Ford Mustang.
