About this 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7

VIN: 7F93A610659

1967 Mercury Cougar Gasser

Purchased from a drag racer in Colorado roughly 7 years ago, the current onwer decided he wanted to do something really different. He loved the idea of the old school gassers and figured why not create one that you never see.

There are gobs of 55 Chevy Gassers out there, how many 67 Cougar Gassers are there? OK, there were a few back in the golden days of drag racing, but hardly any now.

He started with a rust free body, pulled all the suspension out and installed a "Global West" suspension kit which includes the straight axle set up, two solid rear axle connectors, two frame connectors/stiffeners, KYB shocks F&R, disc brakes up front and new rear springs. A Ford 9" rear diff spins 3:55 gears and the owner is unaware if there is a limited slip differential (the 9" was in the car and already rebuilt when he bought the car).

Under the hood the rebuilt 302 was treated to Trick Flow aluminum heads, roller rockers and a custom cut CompCams cam. A Milodon deep sump oil pan was installed, a new alternator, re-cored radiator, an Offenhauser tunnel ram intake, topped off by two Quick Fuel 4 bbl carburetors and velocity stacks. The odometer reads 39,272, however, there is less than 5000 on the car and engine since the rebuild. A toploader 4 speed transmits the power back to that Ford 9". Mickey Thompson 29/15/R15 drag tires really put the rubber to the ground, they are wrapped around Weld aluminum wheels and up front, one can choose from the chrome reverse wheels with Yokohama 235/75/15s or a set of Weld aluminum wheels to match, running Classic Radials in 185/80/15, if you want to really sport the skinny littles and the fat biggies.

The interior is primarily stock. The original dash and gauges are in place and all work. At idle the engine is pulling 50 lbs of Oil PSI and the ammeter shows 40, dead center. The original tach was disconnected and an AutoGauge Sport Comp tach was mounted on the hood. The headlights all work, as do the blinkers. The hidden headlights and the sequential rear blinkers have been converted to electronic as opposed to vacuum.

The original headliner is near perfect as are the original door cards, just some minor wear on the door pulls.

The console is new and the mottled white/cream vinyl seat upholstery front and rear are also new along with the carpet.

Of course, one cannot ignore the wild rusted wrap that covers the entire body of this car, plus the gasser's name, El Jefe Puma - The Boss Cougar and the Tijuana Taxi call out on the sides. Again, wanting to be different he went with that instead of painting everything, less expensive and easier to change out if someone else wants to go a different route.

Turn the key and go. This thing runs and drives great. Obviously it's not a canyon carver .. this goes fast - very fast - in a straight line.

Any questions, for many more photos and video, to arrange a time to see her in person or just to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for the interest!
