• REAL Shelby Cobra 427 • Aluminum Body • CSX4872
• Less than 4,000 total miles*
• Period 1966, 428 Police Interceptor “Cobra Jet” V8 Motor
• Fully restored & upgraded engine when the car was assembled (see build sheet)
• Period Holley 700 double pumper blueprinted carburetor
• 4-speed manual - TKO 600 transmission
• Wilwood Shelby F&R Brakes
• Fully hand-built, aluminum body by Panel Craft, LLC (1 of 5)
• Custom wider-width aluminum ‘Sunburst’ wheels
• Meticulously restored under current ownership to correctly reflect nearly all aspects of a period 3000-series 427 Street Cobra.
• Refer to spreadsheet of original build; The first owner easily invested $3-400,000 in building this stunning show car quality 427 Cobra. Majority of the assembly work completed by Cobra Automotive Inc.
* Original Shelby American gauge from when the car was built currently shows 3,938 miles upon my removal (see pics) + the new Smiths gauge recently installed is at approximately 10 miles currently = less than 4,000 total miles on car.
I purchased this original Shelby Cobra in December of 2022. The car as she sits is completely perfect in every way, and ready to be displayed at the highest level of judging, or driven spiritedly if that is your desire. Totally unpainted, has never been painted, brushed aluminum body. I completed an extensive restoration process to make sure the tiniest details were correct for this car, to reflect an early 60’s Cobra 427 street car, and present itself in a concours-like manner.

The first owner, who spared no expense in the build of this masterpiece, had intentions of creating a look that nods to the famous CSX3010 race car (which last sold for $2.25 million). When I got it, the beautiful all aluminum body was hidden beneath a black vinyl wrap, and gold vinyl stripes. The first thing I did was remove all the vinyl, and began a long and arduous process of carefully restoring and removing all dents, and caring for the brushed aluminum skin body. The aluminum on this car is 90 thousandths of an inch thick, not an alloy like what is produced these days.
The aluminum body fabricator, Panel Craft of New Hampshire, was under contract with Carroll Shelby to produce (20) of these aluminum bodies. This production was an exacting effort to reproduce the body as per original specifications, with no deviations. CSX4872 was body number 5, completed December 12, 2012 (signed in the driver front wheel well). We all know that sadly, Carroll Shelby passed away in May of that year. The Panel Craft contract was subsequently cancelled, and CSX4872 was the fifth and last official Shelby aluminum body fabricated there. These days, new Shelby alloy bodies are sourced from Kirkham.
All original 4-inch round tube chassis and steel suspension from Shelby Automobiles Inc. which matches exactly with 3000 series 427 cars from the 60’s. Even the torsion bar brackets are period correct from the 60’s. This car was built originally as a 427 “street” car. Has always had underbody headers and exhaust (No side pipes on Streets). The first owner sourced a very correct 1966 Police Interceptor 428 motor, which was fully restored with new and upgraded parts at the time (and with less than 4,000 miles on the car, is still basically in new condition) (see build sheet). The transmission was brand new at the time of build and is a 4-speed. The trans tunnel is narrow type, only found to be built this way in early cars. Original Kirkey aluminum race seat buckets and leather skins (little to no padding as built to be a race bucket). Seat belts are authentic. Custom aluminum fuel tank with race style filler (in the trunk). The rear hubs are right out of the movie, designed to be quickly swapped, with resistance-fit pre-loaded bearings. Most of the car is metric, such as the center-lock wheel spinners. Removable crossmember at the transmission, a very rare option that was usually only found on true ’65 built chassis, as verified by AC Cobra, England.
Part of my restoration process included sourcing all of the following parts in new condition to make the car even more perfect:
• All authentic Smiths gauges
• AC pedals
• Front & Rear 427 bumpers and uprights
• Custom aluminum puke tank (from England)
• Correct 427 windshield
• Front air intake air dam
• Custom aluminum shoeboxes in the driver and passenger footwell area
• Custom made aluminum ‘Sunburst’ wheels, exact replicas of original magnesium Sunbursts, but 7.5” in the front, and 9.5” width in the rear.
• Custom designed & CNC machined one-off, central locking hub spacers (removable) to set the Sunburst wheel position to match the stance of Halibrand wheels.
Titled correctly as a 1965 Shelby Cobra with VIN: CSX4872. Clean & clear South Carolina title in-hand. Thank you for viewing, please contact me with any questions, or to make a reasonable offer.
