About this 1966 Porsche 911

VIN: 302164

We are pleased to offer on behalf of one of our clients this rare 1965 (MY66) Porsche 911 Coupe.
For many years, 2shores has been offering selected, finest grade examples of air-cooled Porsches. This very early Porsche 911 Coupe is one of those examples!

Production of the Porsche 911 began in September 1964, with the first 911s exported to the US in February 1965.

The first models of the 911 had a rear-mounted 130 hp, Type 901/01 flat-6 engine, in the “boxer” configuration like the 356, the engine is air-cooled and displaces 1,991 cc (2.0 L) as compared to the 356’s four-cylinder, 1,582 cc (1.6 L) unit. The car had four seats although the rear seats were small and it is usually called a 2+2 rather than a four-seater. A four or five-speed “Type 901” manual transmission was available. The styling was largely penned by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, son of Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche. Butzi Porsche initially came up with a notchback design with proper space for seating two rear passengers but Ferry Porsche insisted that the 356’s successor was to use its fastback styling. 7 prototypes were built based on Butzi Porsche’s original design and were internally called the Porsche 754 T7. Erwin Komenda, the leader of the Porsche car body construction department who initially objected, was also involved later in the design.

The car on offer is an early production vehicle (VIN# 302164) and was finished in light ivory (6404) over red leatherette interior.

This car was delivered new on August 31st 1965 to its first owner in the US, Mr. Dunham in Massachusetts. Mr. Dunham sold the car later to his brother, who kept the Porsche into the 80’s. It was then sold to Mr. Furci who kept it almost 20 years but only put a little over 1000 miles on it. The Porsche had only 3 owners in the US as far as our research goes and has only 57k original miles on it. One repaint in the 90’s to original light ivory. Our customer bought the Porsche in 2012 and brought it back to Germany.

In Germany it was partially disassembled and treated to a mechanical restoration where necessary with emphasis on keeping the car as original as possible. The engine was taken out and resealed and cleaned. With the low mileage, no rebuild was needed. All of this work was done by a German Porsche specialist and is documented with invoices and photos.

The result is a gorgeous nicely sorted and highly original early Porsche 911. The car still carries the original Webasto heater as mentioned in the Kardex. Very solid and dry vehicle with original floors and no signs of prior rust repairs.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly original and early 911 with all the unique features these early cars have.

The car is fully numbers matching with original Kardex card and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Part of a larger Porsche collection.
