Porsche commissioned Belgian Coach builder D'leteren to produce just 248 356 twin grill roadsters for the 1962 model year. Only the infamous 4 cam Carrera's were built in more limited numbers. It has been said that approximately 148 of the original 248 cars have survived. This Roadster, chassis number 89655 had a final production date of 11/13/1961. The car was originally finished in paint code 6210 Smyrna Green, A proper color change to black was done when the car was restored. (in my opinion a good decision) The engine is non-matching (more common than not on 356's) 1600 with a big bore kit and more aggressive cam, this car runs great !
This is a VERY rare Porsche. This wonderfully restored "Twin Grill" has had but one owner since 1978. A virtual mountain of service and ownership history goes back to 1971 along with the cars COA. The car was recently brought to Spokane from the Phoenix area where it had seen very little use in the last few years.
Just recently Jack Morris, one of THE finest early Porsche technicians in the business, performed his magic and tuned the car to perfection.... this is a great running car. I recently drove the car to Arbor Crest Winery for the attached photos and just this last Sunday to Manito Park here in Spokane for a small car guy get together. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive. Clutch take-up is silky smooth, the gearbox shifts like butter. Brake pedal pressure and modulation are excellent. There is no steering play, the car tracks dead straight. There isn't a single rattle or squeak in the car.
Folks, I have had the remarkable good fortune to have been around a plethora of truly great Porsche's but, this car, THIS is truly special. Most will never see a '62 twin grill let alone have the opportunity to enjoy one on the road.
