The incredibly original 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce presented here, chassis # AR 1495 05565, is finished in Grigio Grafite over a full red interior and displays only 55,261 miles. It is a desirable 750F short wheel base model and features a matching-number engine verified by the Certificato Di Origine.
This Giulietta was completed on December 19th, 1958 and arrived in New York on January 20th, 1959. The early history of the car is unknown, however, we have a comprehensive paper trail starting in the late 70s, with some information at earlier times despite no dates present. We have a small set of notes from what may be the second owner, a Lewis Peter, of Nevada, stating it was purchased from a Walter Todd in 1977. He documented various service work over the next few years on a note pad which included oil and filter changes, new points, new plugs, carb adjustments, fresh brakes, and a master cylinder rebuild. In 1982 it changed hands again, selling to Christopher Dworin, of Berkeley, California. Most of his time with the car is undocumented however we have a card displaying it was entered into the Concours d’Elegance de Lafayette at some point during his ownership.
From here, in 1987 Philip Richardson of Tiburon, California purchased the car. Phillip owned the car for 24 years and documented much of his time with the Giulietta. Over the course of his ownership of the car, Oliveria Engineering handled the bulk of the service and maintenance work required. Work done ranged from oil and filter changes to carb rebuilds but nothing on the serious restoration side. The car was acquired by the current owner and consignor sometime in 2022, at which time, it received a comprehensive service for $4,507.07. They repaired a carburetor fuel leak, replaced the master cylinder, spark plugs, tie rods, and other items that needed addressing.
Today, the car presents with a fantastic, evenly distributed patina that really conveys how original this example is. The paint, outside of the driver side fender, appears to be completely original (paint meter readings are located in the detailed photo gallery), which is highly impressive considering its age and indicative of its life in Nevada and California. The interior matches the exterior's aged and original looks. This highly original example has always been cared for and never taken apart. It has been thoroughly enjoyed over the years with responsible caretakers at each stop who valued the driving experience first and foremost. The car is complete with all sorts of original, factory applied clamps, markings, and its original Weber 40DC03 Carbs which are numbered 5250 and 5248. The top has been replaced at some point, otherwise, this preservation example is extremely original. The body number “24543” is stamped on the trunk floor as well as “543” stamping on the hood.
Included in the sale of this Giulietta are the original manuals and pouch, spare tire, jack, service records, California Blue Plate, and Certificato Di Origine.
