Studebaker V8 with the VS 57 Variable Speed McCulloch supercharger. It was factory equipped with the Flight-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission and a Twin-Traction posi-traction rear end, hydrovac power assisted 4 wheel finned drum brakes. The factory build sheet also confirms its original, two-tone scheme of P 5736 Tiara Gold Metallic body with 5761A Artic White Fins ——original color scheme. The interior retains it's original sparkling White Vinyl with black and metallic silver thread cloth inserts, which restorers cannot find. The original white headliner is in remarkable condition as well with working dome light and original padded sun visors. OE Stewart Warner gauges (Speedometer, Water Temperature, Oil Pressure, Tachometer, Gasoline, Amp meter, Vacuum), bright white numbers and letters with proper black viewed through crystal clear lenses without fading mounted in the engine turned surrounds without denting or peeling, signs of correct care and storage over her entire life. Original black dash pad shines with no tears, ripples or fading. Locking glove box opens and closes solid while the light functions. The optional chrome dual Stratoline outside mirrors (driver and passenger) are mint. Factory tinted glass gleams without cracks, scratches or delaminating. All the factory lenses are original, lights work properly and bright. Headlights (low and high beam). turn signals, back up and brake lights are bright and function as new. This GH Hawk starts immediately, idles, runs, drives, brakes and shifts like a 29K mile car should, amazing for a 67 year old car. Further, the Paxton Supercharger was serviced professionally and functions perfectly while the factory Vacuum gauge is connected to monitor its performance.
While the Golden Hawk was already the priciest car in the Studebaker lineup, more option boxes were ticked for power steering, power assisted finned drummed brakes, and along with an electric clock in the dash, 7 tube AM pushbutton radio, interior controlled front fender mounted antenna, factory tinted glass, dual Stratoline stainless and chrome exhaust deflectors, Climatizer heat/defrost and more. Even the original "curb signals" are intact. Drivers and passenger side chrome Stratoline Mirrors glisten with no cracking or delaminating. It is understood that this supercharged Studebaker has remained on the east coast, with copies of NY and Maryland documents for it's entire life.
Its beautiful stainless and chrome brightwork is completely original, two-tone paint, stylish interior, white tailfins, and 15" wheels with original wheel covers are shod in new whitewall radial tires give the true feeling of a luxury high-performance personal coupe; the sound of its supercharged V8 engine breathing through dual chrome/stainless exhaust extensions. Always professionally maintained, the engine was carefully tuned with new points, plugs, condenser and original hydrovac power assisted drum brakes were recently serviced, fluid flushed, new wheel cylinders . The original carburetor was professionally rebuilt and new water pump installed and cooling system flush performed. New fuel lines were replaced. She runs cool even in the hottest summer. In addition to the correct and complete emblems and accessories, the engine compartment has been painstakingly detailed as has the original spare white wall bias ply tire. A new Interstate Battery has been installed for this sale. The Hawk starts up immediately and idles perfectly. An electric fuel pump was installed for dependability. The original locking gas cap and key are present. Only top tier Sunoco 94 octane fuel and Royal Purple Synthetic oil is used while in my care.
Only three owners from new, this striking Golden Hawk gives its next owner the chance to enjoy the show circuit, or take advantage of the many classic motoring opportunities afforded by its 1957 build year and highly desirable performance specification. Included are trophies from Studebaker Drivers Club regional and national shows, the carpets were lifted to find original floor boards as new from the South Bend Plant. Further, the original trunk mat was lifted to find an unmolested trunk floor with the factory primer paint even under the trunk lid.
