The story of my parents 1956 Ford Victoria written in my Dads words before his passing:
“In 1958 after graduating from high school, I went to work for my dad who ran a rock quarrying operation along with farming and cattle.
Having a beautiful high school sweetheart, I was in need of a beautiful car. I had my eye on a 1956 2-door hardtop Ford Victoria Sitting on a Ford lot in Girard, Kansas. With the money I saved from working I got together with the sales manager at the dealership, and we cut a deal for $1,500.
In the fall of 1958 my high school sweetheart was working in Kansas City, Missouri for Hallmark Cards. The 1956 made several trips to Kansas City. I had the best of worlds, pretty girl, and pretty car!
We married on January 9, 1960 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas. When my new wife came out of the church we got into our sunset coral and colonial white 1956 Ford Victoria and headed to Galveston, Texas for our honeymoon. Like I said, pretty girl, pretty car! We had a wonderful trip there and back with no car problems. We drove the car for another five years before we traded it for a 1964 Mercury 4-door Comet to accommodate our young and growing family.
Forty-seven years later our four children wanted to find my first car to have it restored for our 50th wedding anniversary. Their discovery work found that it had been melted down but they were able to find a 1956 Ford Victoria 2-door hardtop in Derby, Kansas. My wife, Mauricia and I and our children went to get it. We drove it home just over 100 miles with no problems. It sure was nice.
First off we needed to find parts for the rebuild. Our two sons helped a lot by locating parts on the computer. (Impressive, since I can’t even turn one on). They located parts from Montana to Pennsylvania. Mauricia would comment, “How can you remember how it was setup?” I knew every detail about that car and it finally came together!
We had it restored at a local body shop by Jerry Winters who did an off-the-frame, complete restoration. It came out of the shop looking just like the one we got married in, sunset coral and colonial white with white side-wall tires, fender skirts and glass-pack mufflers. Ooh it was beautiful! It took all our loose change but it was well worth it.
However, one problem arose. When we brought our newly restored car home we had to park Mauricia’s Lincoln outside. So up came a new garage to part the 56 in.
Then, on our 50th wedding anniversary we came out of the same church that we were married in and got into the exact replica of our 1956 Ford Victoria, 2-door hardtop. The color, seat covers, hub caps and every detail were the same that we had 50 years earlier. Ooh it was nice! So, 50 years later, like I said before, "pretty “girl, pretty car!”
We sure have enjoyed many a ride over to the Sonic for ice cream cones, driving in parades and a sense of pride from the attention we always get. The women-folk say “that is a beautiful car”. The men-folk say “I sure like those pipes”. There are lots of looks and fun for all.”
