Serbian company Zastava started as an arms manufacturer but began producing cars in 1904. By the 1950s, Zastava made a vital partnership with Fiat. The 1400 was the first production Fiat produced by Zastava. Perhaps the most notable Zastava was constructed during this time, the 750. The company's rendition of the Fiat 600 was the Zastava 750. The 750 was a "city vehicle" or "supermini," and over a million were produced. Zastava made cars in cooperation with Yugo in the 80s. In 2008, Fiat acquired 67 percent of the firm, while the Serbian government held the remaining 33 percent. Despite enduring the region's conflicts for so long, Zastava declared bankruptcy in 2017.
