The Volvo V70 XC was an off-road focused variant of the 1st Gen V70 that was introduced for the 1998 model year as a crossover version of the V70 station wagon. The V70 XC was fitted with 2.0L or 2.4L turbocharged inline five engine (only engine available in North America), automatic gearbox, more ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive. The V70 XC, knowned also as the V70 Cross Country was built until 2000, being replaced by the 2nd Gen Volvo V70 XC.
