The first generation of Volvo V70 debuted for the 1997 model year. The V70 was only offered in a four door station wagon body style, with a selection of inline 5 engines. Depending on sepcification, these engines sent drive to the front or all four wheels, through manual or automatic transmission options. The main variants produced were the Base Model, XC 70 and R. Production of the first generation Volvo V70 ended in 2000 when it was replaced by the 2nd Gen Volvo V70.
