One of the most well known uses of the Volkswagen Type 2s is the campervan. The interior and exterior modifications were extensive and many companies worked in customizing these vans to meet customer requirements. Even today it's common to see these vans being modified or upgraded as a way of reviving the hippie spirit of the era. Westfalia-Werke was one of the most renowned companies authorized by Volkwagen. Commonly known as the 'Westy,' the Westfalia featured modified interiors and many were fitted with a "pop-top" roof that increased interior size, designed for camping or overnighting. The T1 generation Type 2 Westfalia was built until 1975 when Volkswagen introduced the T2 generation Westfalia.
