The first generation of Volkswagen Passat was known as the B1. Introduced in 1973, the B1 was initially available as a two or four door fastback sedan, but they were eventually phased out in favor of three and five door hatchbacks. In North America, B1 models were known as the Dasher. Offered with a variety of inline 4 engines, the B1 was produced until 1981 when it was replaced by the B2 Passat.
