The Toyota Corolla E80 is a range of small automobiles manufactured and marketed by Toyota from 1984 to 1987 as the fifth generation of cars under the Corolla nameplate. Most models adopted a front-wheel drive layout. However, a DOHC 16-valve engine, designated 4A-GE, was added in 1984 on the rear-drive cars. It was a 1.6L (1,587 cc) inline-four rated at 112 hp, turning the Toyota Corolla Levin, Toyota Sprinter Trueno (Japan), Corolla GT (Europe), and Corolla GT-S (North America) into a sporty coupe or hatchback. A different variant known as the Sport SR5, featured the 4A-C engine rated at 70 hp. The E80 Corolla was replaced by the E90 Corolla for the 1988 model year.
