The Toyota Celica GT was first released in the U.S. in 1974 and in Japan for 1971. For its first year of production for the American market, the GT featured the single-cam 2.0L inline-four (18R-C). For 1975 through 1977, the GT featured the 2.2L inline-four (20R) rated at 97hp. American GT models received added features such as a stripe package, a radio with AM and FM, and specially styled wheels. The Japanese market got a 1.6L (2T-G) twin-cam engine or a 2.0L (18R-G). Most GTs in Japan received the 18R-G motor, which was good for around 143hp and came with a Porsche-designed (P51) five-speed gearbox. The Japanese market would also see a GTV variant with the 1.6L (2T-G) motor. Both notchback and liftback body styles were available, treated here as "Coupe" and "Hatchback". The 1st Gen Celica GT ended production in 1977 but the model series would continue as part of the second generation of the Celica starting in 1978.
