The Thomas Motor Company was founded in 1900. An American company, Thomas started out manufacturing engines for bicycles, but transitioned into making automobiles in 1902. Notable models produced by the company include the Model 17, the Model 18, and the Flyer. The company entered into financial problems, and was shut down in 1919.
