The first generation of Studebaker Lark debuted for the 1959 model year. This new series of compact cars featured a shortened take on Studebaker's 1958 full size models, and was offered in coupe, sedan, convertible, and station wagon (known as Wagonaire) body styles. The first generation Lark was available in two main variants, the Lark VI and Lark VIII. These variants were named for their respective engine cylinders. The VI featured a 2.8L inline six engine, while the VIII was powered by a 4.2L V8 unit. Both variants were offered in Deluxe or Regal trim levels. Production of the first generation Lark lasted until 1961, when it was replaced by the Second Generation Studebaker Lark.
