The Saab Sonett II was introduced for the 1967 model year. The Sonett II was the first Sonett model to be built in large numbers, as the Sonett I only saw six examples made. Initially, the Sonett II was fitted with an 841cc two-stroke inline three engine, but in 1967, a 1.5L V4 engine was used, and the model was renamed the Sonett V4. Production of the Saab Sonett II / V4 ended in 1969, and the model would be updated an become known as the Sonett III.
