The first generation of Saab 9-5 was introduced for the 1998 model year. The first generation 9-5 was offered as a sedan or station wagon, and was fitted with a selection of inline four or V6 engines available as gasoline or diesel units. Production of the first generation 9-5 sedan ended in 2009, but production of the station wagon lasted until 2010, when the Second Generation Saab 9-5 was introduced.
