The Rover SD1, which was also known as the Standard 2000, was introduced in 1976. It was created to be a successor to the Rover P6. The car was marketed all over the world though not a success in all locations. It is a four-door sedan with a front-mounted engine, of inline 4, inline 6, or V8 configuration. Rover also made a diesel version of the car. The motor is accommodated by an automatic or manual transmission. The car was noted for its ergonomics which drew heavily from the 60s and 70s Italian sports cars. Its performance was impressive enough that it took part in Group A racing events. The SD1 was replaced in 1986 by the Rover 800.
