The third and final generation of Rambler American was introduced for the 1964 model year. The third generation American was offered in convertible, coupe, sedan, hardtop, and station wagon body styles, as well as a range of inline six and V8 engines. The top trim level was the 440, with less expensive 330 and 220 levels available as well. For 1969, the last year of production, the Rambler American became known as the American Motors Rambler, and in order to commemorate the final year of the Rambler, AMC and Hurst collaborated to create the AMC Hurst SC/Rambler, a high performance car based off the Rambler American.
