The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 was introduced in 1974, along with the new base model 911 and 2.7-liter 911S. The model built for all markets except for the United States, known as the Carrera 2.7 MFI (or ROW), used a 210 hp engine with mechanical fuel injection (MFI) inherited from the 1973 Carrera RS. The North American variant, often referred to as the Carrera 2.7 CIS (or US-Spec), was powered by the same engine in the contemporaneos 2.7-liter 911S producing 165 hp. For markets outside the United States (ROW), the Carrera 2.7 evolved into the Carrera 3.0 for the 1976 model year. In North America, the Carrera 2.7 was phased out for model year 1976 in favor of the 2.7L 911S and the 911 Turbo 3.0.  Both the US-Spec and MFI Carrera 2.7 were available in coupe and Targa (semi-convertible) variants.
